Q:.. Why don't the colors in the 3D view look very good? The 2D view looks okay though.

A:.. Set your color depth on your machine to High Color (16-bit) or True Color (24-bit). This will greatly improve the look of the 3D view.

Q:.. When I start 3D Railroad, it keeps asking for the CD. I've done a full install of the program. Is this supposed to happen?

A:.. Yes, the program will require the CD to be in your CD-ROM drive to start the program. Once the program is running, you may eject the CD. If you only do a partial install, the CD will always have to be in the drive to use the program.

Q:.. Sometimes when I attempt to manipulate track in the program, it crashes, giving me a General Protection Fault, or telling me that I've performed an illegal operation. What's wrong?

A:.. If you have a Diamond Stealth video card, there may be a driver conflict. Check in your Windows\System folder for the following file: RWD16DHW.DLL. If you find this file, try moving it out of the System folder and then running 3D Railroad. This will usually solve the problem.

If the above solution does not work, or if RWD16DHW.DLL is not present in your Windows\System folder, check your Virtual Memory settings. You can do this by doing the following:
Click on your Start button, followed by Settings, and then Control Panel.
In the Control Panel, double click on System. This will open the System Properties dialog.
Click on the performance tab at the top of the dialog and then click on the Virtual Memory button.
Check the amount of available space on the line that reads, "Hard Disk". This number should be 200MB or more. If it isn't, you are under the necessary amount that the program needs to run properly. If your system is set to "Let Windows manage my virtual memory settings", you will not be able to set the number any higher than what it reports as available. If your system is set to "Let me specify my own virtual memory settings", you can adjust the amount of space and the drive that Windows is allowed to use for the swap disk. The maximum amount cannot be any higher than what is reported above as available. If you don't have enough space on your drive, you will need to clear some space on your hard drive.

Q:.. When I try to start the program I see lines above my desk top, but the screen seems to stop working, and the computer will not display the start bar. Sometimes a small arrows appears at the top of the screen.

A:.. This is a video problem consistent with Diamond video cards and a .DLL file in the windows\system directory (folder). Search your windows\system folder for the file RWD16DHW.DLL. If it exists, move it (so you may retrieve it later if you find it is a necessary dll) from the windows\system folder to any folder that is NOT in the normal path (like a new folder on your desktop named anything you wish).

If that DLL does not exist, disable the IN CONTROL utility from Diamond and see if the program will run okay after a system restart with that utility not loading.

Q:.. Is it true that v2.0 will not work with 3D Railroad Master? If not, will there be an upgrade that will correct this?
And will it be available for download over the net?

A:.. The current version of 3D Railroad Master™ will not work with version 2.0 of 3D Railroad Concept & Design™. On the next Master upgrade, it will be made to accept the new 3D Railroad 2.0 layouts. As soon as it's available, the Master upgrade will be available on this web site as a free download.
