3D Railroad Master™ (Windows)

Q:.. When I run the program, it crashes.

A:.. If you have a Diamond Stealth video card, there may be a driver conflict. Check in your Windows\System folder for the following file: RWD16DHW.DLL. If you find this file, try moving it out of the System folder and then running 3D Railroad. This will usually solve the problem.

If the above solution does not work, or if RWD16DHW.DLL is not present in your Windows\System folder, check your Virtual Memory settings. You can do this by doing the following:
Click on your Start button, followed by Settings, and then Control Panel.
In the Control Panel, double click on System. This will open the System Properties dialog.
Click on the performance tab at the top of the dialog and then click on the Virtual Memory button.
Check the amount of available space on the line that reads, "Hard Disk". This number should be 200MB or more. If it isn't, you are under the necessary amount that the program needs to run properly. If your system is set to "Let Windows manage my virtual memory settings", you will not be able to set the number any higher than what it reports as available. If your system is set to "Let me specify my own virtual memory settings", you can adjust the amount of space and the drive that Windows is allowed to use for the swap disk. The maximum amount cannot be any higher than what is reported above as available. If you don't have enough space on your drive, you will need to clear some space on your hard drive.

Q:.. Why do some of the game screens have missing buttons, buttons that are half missing, or text that is not aligned properly?

A:.. Your system font size is set to large. This causes the program to miscalculate button and text placement. Setting the font size to small will correct the problem. To do this, follow the procedure below:
Windows 95
Right click on your desktop and select Properties.
Click on the Settings tab.
Set the Font Size to small and then click the Apply button. Click OK to exit. The game will now display buttons and text properly.
Windows 98
Right click on your desktop and select Properties.
Click on the Settings tab and then the Advanced button.
Set the Font Size to small and then click the Apply button. Click OK to exit. The game will now display buttons and text properly.

Q:.. Why does 3D Railroad Master say that I have performed an illegal operation and then crash when I click the Play button to enter the cab of the locomotive?

A:.. You may be running out of swap drive space. Try increasing it to at least 200MB following the instructions below:
Click on your Start button, followed by Settings, and then Control Panel.
In the Control Panel, double click on System. This will open the System Properties dialog.
Click on the performance tab at the top of the dialog and then click on the Virtual Memory button.

Or it may be a conflict with your sound card. This happens occasionally with non-SoundBlaster cards. Try turning off the music in the Game Options dialog (but leave the sound effects on) and then running the simulation. In the majority of cases, this will correct the problem.

Q:.. Why does Railroad Master rearrange my desktop icons after I quit the program?

A:.. The program will only do this if you are running the game in full screen mode. Turn off this option by selecting Options from the main menu and un-checking the checkbox next to "Full Screen Mode".

Q:.. When I start 3D Railroad Master, I get no sound at all. I’ve made sure that the sound option is checked in the Options menu but it still won’t play any sound.

A:.. This is more than likely caused by an incompatibility with your sound card. At the game’s Start menu, click on the Options button and turn off the Background Music (but leave the sound effects on). This should correct the problem.
