Q:.. I just received and installed 3D Walkaround on my Imac. Every time I try to start the program it crashes. I can run the program from the CD. What is wrong?

A:.. Version 8.6 of the System Software has problems with font control. Apple has a Font Manager Update on their web site to correct the problem at this URL:

http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n11489

Until you can download the update and install it, turn off Adobe Type Manager (from the control panel). This will allow the program to run without problems.

Q:.. 3D WalkAround has stopped letting me draw walls. I've tried drawing them everywhere, and even extending or duplicating existing walls, but it just beeps and deletes whatever I try to build. I don't understand what is happening--the program was working fine one minute and collapsed the next. When going to 3D view, the program said there was an invalid overlap of walls & windows/doors (error 27).

A:.. Somewhere in your layout is a corrupt door or window. There isn't really an easy way to find it other than eliminating them one by one until you find the one that's causing the problem and deleting it. Once it has been eliminated, you can replace it with a new one.

Q:.. When I attempt to open a 3D view of my floor plan, I only see the walls and the floor. Why don't any of the furniture objects that are in my drawing show up?

A:.. Make sure that the application (the icon that you click on to start the program) is in the same folder with the rest of the folders in the program (Images 3D, Textures, Samples, Symbol Libraries). The application will expect to see these folders in the same location as the program. If it's not, you will not see any of the library objects in the 3D view.

Q:.. I have downloaded the 3DWalk 201 Update.sit and placed it in my 3DWalkAround.pm folder. When I try to open it I get a message "document could not be opened because the applications program that created it could not be found". I also downloaded the manual and was able to open it fine. Can someone give me some help?

A:.. You need to unstuff the file that you downloaded before it can be used. You should be able to download a shareware version of StuffIt Lite from the internet. You then open the file you downloaded with StuffIt and extract it to the 3D WalkAround folder. Tell it to replace the current file that is there. If it does not replace it, you will have to manually go into the 3D WalkAround folder and delete the old application.

Q:.. I just loaded a new copy of DYOH 3D WalkAround. When trying to start the program, it gives me a message saying that it cannot find the 3D WalkAround CD-ROM. All portions of the CD for the Power Mac were loaded onto the hard drive and placed in one folder. With the CD in the machine, the application starts OK. Is this supposed to happen?

A:.. 3D WalkAround requires the CD to be in the drive to start the program. Once the program has started, you may remove the CD.

Q:.. I have 3D WalkAround for the Mac and created a floor plan and then saved it. Now I cannot open it. When I try, the application quits and I get a dialog box saying I have a Type 1 error. Is there any way I can open this floor plan?

A:.. It sounds like the file you saved is corrupt. It's usually a good idea to make a backup copy of the files you create with WalkAround in case something like this happens (which should not be often). If it happens regularly, you may have an extension conflict that is causing the problem.

Q:.. Is there a way to do a walk through of the 2nd floor of a drawing in 3D mode in Mac Walkaround 2.0.1?

A:.. Yes, all you have to do is raise the camera up to the second floor and walk. Click on the up and down arrows on the left side of the 3D window while holding down the Option key.

Q:.. I try to start the program after I installed it. A message saying Type -90 error keeps coming up. I have a Mac Performa 550 and loaded the Mac.68K version.

A:.. The Performa 550 does not have a floating-point unit (math co-processor). 3D Walkaround will not run on that machine, thus the -90 error (basically a NO FPU error).
